Looking for a PlanPost alternative?
On price these two are close, and this page says so rather than pretending otherwise — at PlanPost's own entry volume the two figures are the same to the penny, and the gap stays in single figures across most of the table. What differs is the shape. Their plans buy letters in blocks of 25, 60 and 120, so the block you choose in advance decides how many you send this month. Ours does not work that way, and nothing is payable until you post something.
The short answer
At 100 letters a month, Just Granted is £123 (£1.23 a letter) and PlanPost is £134.60 (£1.35 a letter). That is £11.60 a month less — 9%.
The block you buy decides the month you get
- You size the month before you know what is in it
- PlanPost publish 25 letters for £39, 60 for £79 and 120 for £149. A quiet month does not give the difference back, and a busy one runs into their overage rate — £1.29 to £1.49 a letter depending which plan you are on. Nobody knows in August how many extensions will be approved near them in September, and choosing the block is a bet on it.
- £39 is the cheapest way to see anything
- Their price list starts at £39 a month. An account here costs nothing, needs no card and does not expire: search every council we collect, save the searches that matter and get told when something new lands in them. The applicant's name and address is the part you pay for.
- There is nothing smaller than a plan
- On our free tier you can post one letter at the pay-as-you-go rate with no subscription at all. If what you want to know is whether a letter to a loft conversion two streets away gets answered, one letter is a thing you can buy.

How PlanPost price it
Three tiers; this table takes whichever is cheapest at each volume, which is what a competent buyer would do. 389 councils, no contract, prices exclude VAT.
Where a vendor sells tiers this table takes whichever of theirs is cheapest at that volume, which is the reading most favourable to them. Where their price card does not reach a volume the cell says "not published" — we do not extrapolate somebody else's prices.
What PlanPost do well
Read off their own published pages, on the date above.
- Their pricing page says they cover 389 councils.
- Their plans include an AI letter writer, optional QR-code tracking and follow-up letters triggered on approval.
- No contract, and a 14-day satisfaction guarantee.
What we do differently
- Write the letter yourself, and see the printed page
- The letter editor is a box in your browser. You write the wording, upload your letterhead, and see the exact page that will come off the printer before anything is posted — the page itself, not a description of it.
- Keep as many letters as you have kinds of job
- One for loft conversions, one for rear extensions, one for the letter that goes out when permission is granted. There is no limit on how many you keep and you choose which one per mailing.
- Council by council, with the date we last read it
- Every council we collect has its own page saying what we hold and when we last looked. If you work across five boroughs you can read all five before deciding anything.
What this comparison does not cover
This page compares one thing: what a month of letters costs. Both services sell more than that, and these are the parts that are not in the table above.
- Coverage. This table compares what a month of letters costs, not how many councils each service watches. Ours is listed council by council, with what we hold and when we last read each register.
- Their extras. The AI letter writer, the QR-code tracking and the triggered follow-ups are theirs, and none of them is priced on either side of this table.
What we actually hold
We collect 346 council registers often enough to publish a page about each of them. That is counted from our own rows, not claimed — every one of those councils has a page showing what we hold and when we last saw it, and the index lists the ones we do not.
Questions
- Is Just Granted cheaper than PlanPost?
- At 100 letters a month Just Granted is £123 and PlanPost is £134.60, so we are cheaper by £11.60 a month — 9%. Our figure is resolved from the system that bills; theirs was read off their published pricing page on 09 October 2026 and is true of their page on that day. Their figure excludes VAT; we are not VAT-registered, so nothing is added to ours.
- What does PlanPost charge?
- Three tiers; this table takes whichever is cheapest at each volume, which is what a competent buyer would do. 389 councils, no contract, prices exclude VAT. Read on 09 October 2026.
- Can I try Just Granted before leaving PlanPost?
- Yes. The free tier costs nothing, needs no card and has no time limit: you can search every council we collect, save searches and get alerts. Applicant names and addresses are the part you pay for. You can also post a single letter at the pay-as-you-go rate without any subscription.
- How do I check these prices myself?
- Open their published pricing page and compare. Every competitor figure on this page is Declared — read off their own published page on the date shown — rather than Measured, and prices move. If one of ours is out of date we would rather know.
Where these numbers come from
Who publishes this
Just Granted reads the planning register of every council we cover, every week, and posts letters to the applicants for you. A free account searches all of it and posts a letter for £1.45 with no subscription. £39 a month adds the applicants' names and addresses, with 30 letters included and £1.20 each after that.
